Barcelona International Law Experience | International Law & Advocacy Program
Organized by the Barcelona Bar Association. In partnership with the Georgia Bar and California Law Association
Objectives of the Exchange Program
The International Legal Exchange Program offers a unique opportunity for both young and experienced lawyers to gain valuable insights into the legal systems of EU Member States. The program is designed to foster cross-border networking, enhance legal knowledge, and strengthen overall legal competencies.
Our goal is to promote the development and application of the rule of law while enhancing the administration of justice. With a focus on substantive legal advancements at the European and international levels, our initiatives support the growth of legal practice and the wider legal framework.
Program Overview
- Duration: 1 week
- Target Participants: Young lawyers and experienced legal professionals
- Main Features: Law firm experiences, trial simulations, case analysis, legal and cultural immersion, and networking opportunities.
What You Will Experience
Throughout the program, participants will engage in a variety of activities:
- Law Firm Experience: Participants will visit prestigious law firms, interacting with leading professionals who have handled high-profile cases, including those brought before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). These visits will allow participants to explore different legal specialties and gain practical knowledge by analyzing real cases.
- Law School Training: Comprehensive legal training sessions will cover multiple areas of law, including criminal, civil, commercial, and labor law. You can choose to attend all sessions or specialize in specific areas of interest. Practical problems and case studies will be discussed to enhance analytical and advocacy skills.
- Moot Court Sessions: To wrap up the learning week, participants will take part in mock trials in a courtroom setting. A judge will oversee the proceedings, with participants divided into various roles such as lawyers, prosecutors, and witnesses. This offers an opportunity to showcase oratory, advocacy, and strategic skills. Certificates will be awarded to top performers.
- Legal Excursions and Networking: Experience enriching legal excursions to institutions like the Superior Court of Justice and the City of Justice. The program also includes a visit to the prestigious Barcelona Bar Association’s library, one of Europe’s finest legal collections. Networking dinners and sessions with the Young Lawyers Section of Barcelona will allow participants to build international professional connections.
- Cultural Immersion: Alongside your legal training, enjoy exploring the vibrant city of Barcelona. The program will include visits to some of Barcelona's most iconic landmarks, including the Sagrada Família, Parc Güell, and a wine-tasting experience.
- Comprehensive Support: The program includes accommodation, meals, transportation, cultural outings, and more. Each participant will also have a dedicated supervisor to guide them throughout the program, offering assistance with tasks and insights into national legislation.
